I have just come back from a family holiday and couldn’t wait to get back to see if anything had changed at the wood.
I thought there might have been more growth on the tree’s and plants or am I just being impatient.
Yes I am, all in good time.
Primrose
Primroses are popping up all over and Bluebells are everywhere and there’s some new growth on the Hawthorn trees which I planted last year.

Not a native but I have planted around 10 Buddleia bushes to encourage the butterflies into the wood and I think I need to prunes these around now down to about a foot or so to get more growth so I will do that tomorrow before work.

I spent most of the day moving a large pile of old branches which had been there since I first started last year and tidying the gate entrance buy digging a foot deep ditch to help drainage and relaying the short planks I had cut earlier to keep my feet dry when we have heavy rain.
I then fixed and tidied the main gate entrance by adding some new chicken wire to keep out the deer.
On the bird front, great exciting new is I have a Tawny owl in one of the boxes me and my mate Mick put up last summer, I am hoping it is part of a pair and maybe nest.
Today I had six Siskin and 4 Goldfinch on the Niger seed so ordered a larger feeder to try and keep them for a while (Siskin will be heading back soon), the Goldfinch have been coming 1 at a time, maybe the same one, not sure but great to see 4 today.
Also thinking of making a Goldfinch / Siskin hide for next year by the new pond as they get bullied by the tits and this is maybe why they have only recently started to come to the feeders or is food getting short ?.
A hot bath awaits.
