OWL UPDATE 26.10.21
With the evenings getting darker and the clocks going back this weekend I thought it was about time I saw what was happening after dark with the intention of starting up the owl workshops again.
I have spent a couple of evenings over the last couple of months up there with mixed results, mostly not seeing a lot or a fly-through from one or two owls but generally quiet apart from the odd calls.
Recently with a bit of help from a friend who goes in at dusk and leaves a couple of offerings once or twice a week and me doing another day leave out day-old dead chicks, a byproduct of the egg industry.( Thanks Sally)
Well, I must say it’s working as just after dark an owl flew in and grabbed a chick placed on a post and for the next couple of hours came in regularly for a mouse placed on a post.
This time I tried something different, I used my 24-70 ml lens set about a meter from the post, slightly angled upwards, and fired the camera with a wireless remote, triggering the flashes.
Worked ok but could be better, I know I’m fussy but I know it can work and will have another go some.
I do own a 14-24 wide-angled lens but I scratched the front element so hopefully if not too expensive I will get that fixed and that would be awesome if I can get some shots of them landing.
Anyway, I will be starting the workshops soon and more info here. Tawny Owl workshop
Just a few from the session taken with my 24-70 lens.
