Another visit from the Buzzard and later Owl photography
I had the chance on Tuesday night to photograph the owls by myself and after my guests using the hides had left I did a bit of work then setup a roadkilled squirrel hoping that something might pay it some attention as we had a Red kite flew in and grab some roadkill last week a real surprise. (Not seen since)
Whilst hoping, I also put some peanuts out to get the attention of the notoriously shy Jay population, two anyway.
I concealed myself in the hide around 5 ish and managed a few Jay shots but the light wasn’t great and can probably do better if I can just get then get them to visit more.
Usually, they become less shy in July when they have chicks but for now, they really are nervous birds.
Here are a few photos from the Jay’s.
Just when I had given up hope and was about to set up for the owls a Buzzard flew in at 8 pm and straight away got stuck into the tethered squirrel.
It stayed for around ten minutes and I even got to video footage, probably thanks to the silent Nikon Z6 not giving me away.
Here are some shots of the buzzard.
And here the video (a bit gory).
Tawny owls
Just before dark, the male tawny owl appeared and grabbed a mouse and took it deep into the wood where the newly fledged owlets are waiting. I still haven’t seen the female since the 29th of March as the male has and still is feeding his family.
I could hear last week at least two owlets calling for food and hope they may venture in to take a mouse provided on the post.
Time will tell and they seem to be doing well, hopefully, see them soon.
I’m getting better with the flight shots and will also be extending the pool to make reflection flight shots possible as it’s just a tadge too short.
I had a problem getting the new, bigger liner as amazon lost it but it arrived today (Friday) and should be done by next week.
Some from the short session.
