I planned on Saturday to tidy up an area of brambles in the wood and in my breaks, I would set up a camera and try and catch some with the remaining snow in the shots before it melted.
The pond was still frozen so I decided to set the camera up in the top hide and as I had some weak sunshine decide to try for flight shots as the snow was bouncing the light back up onto the birds.
Shutter speeds were very high along with high iso to try and freeze the birds as they darted in for food.
This time I was using my Nikon D5 as I needed lots of speed and with the mirror locked up, I could get 14 frames a second.
With hundreds of birds, it was just a matter of timing and made easier with a remote cable.
Couldn’t pick any favorites so there’s plenty to choose from.
Here are some from Saturday in two short sessions using just natural light with the snow as a reflector.
