Yesterday, Thursday I attempted to capture some birds in flight, the weather said odd sunny intervals, wrong one brief bit of sunshine for 5 mins.
All of these where taken in natural light at up to 5000 iso, not something I would choose to do but I wanted to have a go all the same.
I suspended some food for the birds to eat and set up my camera in front of a beech hedge hence the golden background.
Today I decided to use my 500ml f4 which turned out to be way too much but its a start, but you have to start somewhere so you can improve and learn.
Next time I would use my 300ml lens and bring it all forward a few mtrs.
The birds performed good and given the low light quite pleased that it worked and I know could do better which spurns me on for another attempt.
With the 500ml lens I needed to set the food back to around 8mtrs to give me a good working space for the birds to fly into otherwise the wings would be clipped all the time and a bit more to get the woodpeckers in.
Here is some from my first attempt and don’t forget these are low res images of around 100kg so they not too sharp, shrunk to speed up the website, bit noisy but what you can expect at 5000 iso.
