BUZZARD FAMILY CAME TO VISIT 5.8.21
On the way home I saw a dead rabbit so quickly turned around and grabbed it and placed it in the back of my truck.
Thursday morning I had two ladies in the pond hide and once they were set up eagerly waiting for the Kingfisher to appear I made a quick retreat.
Over where I photograph the owls & badgers I staked out the rabbit on a stump and waited in the hide anticipating that I might get lucky and a buzzard may pay me a visit.
All week two young buzzards have been calling all day and regularly check out the area and after my last attempt felt quite confident I might get some shots.
I had been in the hide for about 20 mins when out of nowhere a buzzard flew in and landed on the rabbit and got stuck in, I was ready, with the camera focused on the rabbit and with no need to move anything and get spotted I started firing away.
I’m shooting with a Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera in silent shutter mode attached to a 500ml f4 lens a great combination and the buzzard had no idea I was watching.
For the rest of the day I had several visits and at one time had 3 birds there, one adult and two youngsters, with the youngster having a battle on the floor but I could not move the lens in case I was spotted so just watched in amazement, truly my best experience with these amazing bird to date.
Here are some photos from this amazing experience and next a video of over 20 mins of the buzzards feeding.
