Eastern Olivaceous warbler at Farlington marshes 17.9.19
With the news of a Eastern Olivaceous warbler at Farlington marshes reported for a few days I could’nt resist a look.
I used to do a bit of twitching years ago but since I got my small bit of woodland I have just been too busy, but now I feel with my wood now established I can aford the odd day out to see some new birds and hopefully get a photo.
I arrived at Farlington around 8.30 and with no one on site I just wandered around, I thought it would still be busy but with all the hardcore twitcher probably been and gone days ago, it seemed quiet.
By 9 a few more birders started to arrive and we got chatting and they gave me some info on its last whereabouts, I headed over and instantly heard and unusual call, sort of blackcap tack call but seemed longer in duration, I followed the call and eventually it showed itself.
I watched it for a few hours as it foraged in the blackthorne and hawthorne bushes, sometimes dissappearing for half hour but easily located again by its call.
It was always a bit distant for a good photo but managed some record shots, here is what i got.
